Make the cream puff dough: In a medium saucepan, combine the butter, salt, and 1 cup water and, stirring occasionally, bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Add the flour all at once, reduce the heat to medium, and cook, stirring continuously with a wooden spoon, until the dough forms a ball and easily pulls away from the side of the pan, about 1 minute. Remove the pan from the heat and let the dough cool for 5 minutes.

Add 1 egg and stir until it has been fully incorporated into the dough, then add 3 more eggs, one at a time, stirring until each is incorporated before adding the next. The dough is ready when it forms a “V” shape if you lift the spoon out of the dough. Transfer the dough to a piping bag fitted with a ⅝-inch star tip.
